In less than two weeks, Da Nang consecutively became the centre of national attention with two events of national and international significance
From the 4th Da Nang Asian Film Festival (DANAFF IV), held from 28 June to 4 July 2026, to Da Nang Business, Finance and Technology Week 2026 (DBFTW 2026), held from 7 to 12 July 2026, the coastal city revealed a new identity: not only as one of Vietnam’s leading resort destinations but also as an emerging regional centre for culture, the knowledge economy and innovation.
While DANAFF IV presented a Da Nang defined by cinema, art and creativity, DBFTW 2026 introduced another image of the city centred on international finance, semiconductors, artificial intelligence and advanced technology.
At DANAFF IV, the city was honoured to welcome Võ Thị Ánh Xuân, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Vice President of Vietnam; Phạm Thị Thanh Trà, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Deputy Prime Minister; leaders of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Lâm Thị Phương Thanh, Member of the Party Central Committee and Minister; along with numerous filmmakers, artists and cinema experts from Vietnam and other countries across the region. This year’s film festival continued to affirm the vision of transforming Da Nang into an “Asian City of Cinema”, where cinema not only serves cultural development but also becomes an industry and an effective tool for destination promotion.

Immediately after the final scenes of the film festival came to a close, Da Nang welcomed Nguyễn Văn Thắng, Member of the Party Central Committee and Deputy Prime Minister, to Da Nang Business, Finance and Technology Week 2026. During the week-long event, which brought together policymakers, experts, investors and businesses, major topics such as the Vietnam International Financial Centre in Da Nang, innovation, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, advanced technology and the global city vision were discussed, reflecting the ambition to establish Da Nang as a new growth pole for Vietnam.

Notably, both of these important event weeks were hosted at Furama Resort Danang and Ariyana Convention Centre Danang. This is not only a source of pride for the Furama–Ariyana ecosystem but also a testament to Da Nang’s capacity to organise large-scale events while meeting rigorous requirements for diplomacy, security, media and logistics. From APEC 2017 to DANAFF and now DBFTW, the Furama–Ariyana complex continues to serve as the city’s “international reception hall”.
From a broader perspective, these two event weeks took place while the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival (DIFF) 2026 was generating strong appeal among millions of domestic and international visitors. Three major events held in succession created a rare and valuable chain of economic opportunities.
DIFF attracts mass tourism while stimulating spending on accommodation, dining and services
DANAFF builds the image of a cultural and creative city while promoting the Film Economy, where every film, artist and cinematic frame contributes to destination promotion.
DBFTW, meanwhile, targets business travellers, investors, technology experts and finance professionals, expanding Da Nang’s presence on the global economic map.
Rather than competing with one another, the three events complement each other, enabling the city to increase tourism revenue in the short term while strengthening its brand value and attracting long-term investment.
This is also the development model adopted by many successful cities around the world. Cannes is renowned not only for its beautiful coastline but also for the Cannes Film Festival. Davos is internationally associated with the World Economic Forum. Singapore has strengthened its brand through the Singapore FinTech Festival and Formula 1. Da Nang is now gradually developing a similar model by integrating culture, tourism, finance, technology and MICE into a year-round event ecosystem.
For the tourism industry, this represents an important transformation. Instead of relying solely on seasonal leisure travellers, Da Nang is expanding towards high-value visitor segments such as MICE delegates, cinema-related visitors, investors, technology professionals and business travellers. These groups tend to have higher spending levels and longer stays while generating more opportunities for cooperation, investment and high-quality employment within the local economy.
Perhaps the most encouraging development is that Da Nang is gradually shifting from the mindset of “organising events” to “building an Event Economy”. When international events are held continuously, the city does more than sell hotel rooms or attraction tickets; it also promotes its image, brand, investment opportunities and confidence in a dynamic, creative and internationally connected city.
While DANAFF affirms that Da Nang has the potential to become an Asian city of cinema, DBFTW 2026 demonstrates that the city is also pursuing an even greater ambition: becoming a meeting point for finance, technology and innovation in Vietnam and the wider region. This is the lasting value that these two consecutive event weeks bring to Da Nang today and to the city’s development for many years to come.
