On the evening of July 6, the Ariyana Convention Centre Danang proudly hosted over 800 distinguished guests, including Da Nang city leaders, various departments, representatives from the organizing committee, and top Vietnamese celebrities, for the closing ceremony of the 2nd Da Nang Asian Film Festival (DANAFF II) 2024, themed ‘Bridging Asia.’
The impressive closing ceremony featured numerous awards presented to outstanding films, directors, and actors. The success of DANAFF II has contributed to realizing the goal of integrating Da Nang into the UNESCO Creative Cities network.

Best Lead Actor – Thai Hoa.
Best Vietnamese Film – *Mai* (Director: Tran Thanh).
Best Screenplay – Asian Competition Film: Liu Jiayin (*The Worthwhile Lives*).
Best Asian Film – “Cu Li không bao giờ khóc”
At the closing ceremony and awards of DANAFF II, prizes were presented in two categories: Asian Competition Films and Vietnamese Competition Films. The major award for Best Film in the Vietnamese Competition was given to *Mai* directed by Tran Thanh. Additionally, *Mai* won two other significant awards: Best Lead Actress (Phuong Anh Dao) and Best Director (Tran Thanh).
Other awards in the Vietnamese Competition category included Best Lead Actor, which went to Thai Hoa for *Face Off 7: A Wish* by Ly Hai. The Audience Choice Award for Vietnamese films was given to the animated series *The Carp of Mr. Tao*, *Unique in Khoai Village*, and *The Mischievous Lion Dance Team*. The NETPAC Award was presented to *Face Off 7: A Wish*.
In the Asian Competition category, the Grand Prize for Best Film was also awarded to a Vietnamese film, *Cu Li Never Cries*. Other awards included: Best Screenplay to Liu Jiayin for *The Worthwhile Lives*; Best Lead Actor to Wu Kang Ren for *Eternal Wish*; Best Lead Actress to Yuumi Kawai for *Ann’s Life*; Best Director to Pham Thien An for *Inside the Golden Cocoon*; and the Special Jury Award for *Ann’s Life*.

DANAFF is becoming increasingly professional
Speaking at the closing ceremony of DANAFF II, Mr. Trần Chí Cường, Vice Chairman of Da Nang City People’s Committee, stated that DANAFF II, with the theme “Bridging Asia,” provided Da Nang with a vibrant and colorful week of cinema. This is the second time Da Nang has successfully hosted an international film event. During the week of DANAFF II, numerous activities took place, including film screenings for the public at various cinemas, outdoor movie screenings, film crew premieres, artist交流 programs, and international seminars and forums. Notably, for the first time in Vietnam, DANAFF II awarded a Film Achievement Award to an outstanding filmmaker: Director – People’s Artist Dang Nhat Minh. “All of this has left a positive impression on a wide audience, including the public, students, managers, and experts in the film industry,” Mr. Trần Chí Cường expressed.

Dr. Ngô Phương Lan, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Film Promotion Association (VFDA), Co-Chair of the organizing committee, and Director of DANAFF, praised the professionalism in organizing DANAFF II. She noted that all the events and activities at DANAFF II created a vibrant, cohesive, youthful, and energetic symphony that was felt by the distinguished guests, artists, filmmakers, and audiences.
According to Dr. Ngô Phương Lan, the success of DANAFF II was due to the enthusiastic participation of 800 guests and delegates, including nearly 80 international delegates, over 100 journalists and editors, more than 100 volunteers, and tens of thousands of viewers, as well as the dedication and hard work of over 100 people in the organizing committee, subcommittees, and hundreds of behind-the-scenes supporters who worked day and night. “Please continue to trust us so that future DANAFFs will be even larger and more professional, contributing to the development of the Vietnamese film industry and helping to position Da Nang – a city strong in content creation and festivals – in the UNESCO Creative Cities network,” Dr. Ngô Phương Lan stated as her goal for future DANAFFs.
