On the evening of July 2, 2025, the musical The Enchanted Crossbow, presented by Victoria School with the artistic sponsorship of the Vietnam Youth Theatre, created a sensation at the Danang Asian Film Festival (DANAFF III 2025). Hosted at the Ariyana Convention Centre Danang, the performance drew an audience of over 1,000, including film industry professionals, international guests, and local residents, turning the DANAFF stage into a vibrant cultural venue.
Marking a historic moment, The Enchanted Crossbow became the first-ever school musical to be officially featured at an international film festival in Vietnam. The production featured 50 talented students from Victoria School, who reimagined the legendary tale of the Magic Crossbow through a dynamic fusion of tradition and modernity. Highlights included a youthful English-language rap by the divine turtle Kim Quy, a heartfelt bilingual rendition of “Mother Loves You,” and a lively adaptation of the popular tune “Bống Bống Bang Bang,” captivating and moving the audience throughout the night.

Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Association of Film Promotion and Development, shared: “Victoria School’s performance is not only a remarkable piece of art, but also an inspiring effort to encourage young talents in the cultural and artistic field. I received enthusiastic feedback from audiences in Ho Chi Minh City, and I’m delighted to see the musical featured at DANAFF III. Victoria School is truly a nurturing ground for the next generation of creatives.”

Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan – Film Theorist and Critic, Chairwoman and General Secretary of the Vietnam Association of Film Promotion and Development (VFDA), gave a speech at the opening ceremony.
From the very first moments, The Enchanted Crossbow took the audience on a vivid artistic journey. “I was honestly surprised. I’ve seen many artistic performances, but never imagined a school musical could be this professional. The students delivered their lines in English, yet the emotions were deeply Vietnamese—it was truly touching,” shared a local Danang attendee.
A Korean guest echoed the sentiment: “I was moved to tears during the final scene. The storytelling was modern but still preserved traditional values. It’s truly impressive to witness Vietnamese youth conveying national heritage with such creativity and global language on an international stage.”

Korean audiences were delighted by the adorable and heartfelt performances of the young students.
The musical’s success highlights both the exceptional talent of Victoria School’s students and the school’s strategic investment in arts education. The Ariyana Convention Centre’s advanced staging, modern lighting, and large-capacity hall provided the perfect launchpad, creating an immersive and visually stunning experience. Every element—from the choreography to the stagecraft—was meticulously executed, drawing the audience into every moment.

The entire performance showcased an exceptional level of professionalism, with every detail thoughtfully crafted and polished.
Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan added: “With venues like Furama Resort Danang and Ariyana Convention Centre Danang, filmmakers and event organizers across Asia and beyond are always eager to return. These are world-class spaces ideal for premier cultural experiences.”
Vietnamese culture through the creative lens of youth
The Enchanted Crossbow is a Victoria School initiative, artistically supported by the Vietnam Youth Theatre. While conveying powerful messages of patriotism, peace, and loyalty, the musical offers a fresh perspective, delivered entirely in English by students from elementary to high school. This multilingual and modern storytelling format resonated strongly with both local and international audiences at DANAFF III 2025.

Vicotria School students confidently embodied Vietnamese spirit through graceful gestures, expressive glances, and heartfelt melodies.
With confidence and authenticity, Victoria School students brought Vietnamese cultural identity to life through every movement, expression, and melody. The production was part of the school’s summer enrichment program, designed to give students hands-on experience on a professional stage, engage with the wider arts community, and enjoy a fulfilling summer filled with cultural exchange.
The musical stands as a testament to Victoria School’s mission to nurture young talents and promote Vietnamese culture on global platforms. The Enchanted Crossbow is not only a proud achievement for its young performers but also a cultural gift that added vibrancy to the DANAFF III 2025 festivities in coastal Danang.
