During the Christmas and New Year holidays which is running from 24 December 2018 until 1 January 2019, domestic and international tourist arrivals to Da Nang are likely to hit about 158,019, up 10.5% against the same period last year.
Of this figure, overseas visits to the city are expected to rise by 12.2% to an estimated 91,464, whilst domestic visitors will go up by 8.3% to 66,555.
According to the municipal Department of Tourism said, the hike in visitor arrivals due to the fact that the Christmas and New Year holidays fall on the peak season for the city to attract visitors from the US, Australia, China, Japan, and South Korea.
Furthermore, recent times have seen the opening of new direct international flights connecting Da Nang with other such destinations worldwide as Busan, Daegu, Osaka, Bangkok and Doha, hereby attracting even more overseas to the city as well as facilitating travellers in the city and elsewhere in central regional localities to access other countries.
Besides, during the year-end period, locals and visitors are being treated to a wide range of fascinating events across the city.
Most notable are the ‘Festive Season’ Festival at the Cocobay Entertainment and Tourism Complex in Ngu Hanh Son District (until January 2019); the Winter Festival at Sun World Ba Na Hills (until 31 December 2018); a fine arts exhibition entitled ‘Quintessence of Da Nang Arts’ at the Da Nang Fine Arts Museum (until 8 January); and the New Year Countdown Party 2019 at the 29 March Square on 2 September Street (31 December from 9.00pm until 0.15am.)
On Monday, arranged by the city’s Destination Asia company, the Westerdam cruise ship, carrying a total of around 1,984 European and America passengers, docked at the Tien Sa Port.
During their stay in the seaside city, the foreign passengers visited some of the city’s popular tourist attractions, and went shopping at popular trading areas.
According to the evaluation by cruise ship operators, this year’s cruise ship season is much more bustling than in previous years. Last year saw more than 100 cruise ship arrivals, bringing a combined total of about 145,000 international visitors to the city.
