Lễ Khai mạc Liên hoan Phim Châu Á Đà Nẵng 2025 (DANAFF III) - Khi Đà Nẵng trở thành tâm điểm của điện ảnh châu Á

From June 29 to July 5, 2025, Ariyana Convention Centre Danang had the honor of accompanying the 3rd Danang Asian Film Festival (DANAFF III), a prestigious event co-organized by the People’s Committee of Danang and the Vietnam Film Development Association (VFDA), with support from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Danang, various city departments, UNIMedia Corporation, and numerous other partners.

Marking a significant leap in both scale and quality, DANAFF III opened in the elegant and modern setting of Ariyana Convention Centre Danang, and was broadcast live on Vietnam Television, attracting wide public attention from both domestic and international audiences.

🎞️ At the opening ceremony, DANAFF III announced the Lifetime Achievement Award to honor legendary Korean director Im Kwon Taek, a pioneer who helped shape the face of modern Korean cinema. The award was accepted on his behalf by Mr. Kim Dong Ho, founder of the Busan International Film Festival, alongside H.E. Mr. Choi Youngsam, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Vietnam.

The event was further elevated by the presence of hundreds of distinguished international guests, including actor Park Sung Woong, acclaimed actress Moon Sori, the lead duo from the film #LoveinVietnam — Kha Ngan and Shantanu — and many other prominent figures from Vietnamese showbiz.

🎬 Asian cinema shines by the sea
DANAFF III featured 14 films from across Asia in competition and introduced 4 international premieres, including Rain on the Butterfly Wings (Vietnam), Black Dog (China), Stranger Eye (Singapore), and Reversi (Malaysia).

Four films made their international debut at DANAFF III: Family Secrets (Korea), How to Forget You (Japan), Out of Order (Philippines), and Father (Mongolia). Each film delivered a distinct cinematic language rooted in social empathy and cultural identity.

🌍 Global spotlight with an esteemed jury and star-studded guest list
The DANAFF III jury brought together respected figures from the international film community. Korean director Jang Joon Hwan, known for Save the Green Planet! and 1987: When the Day Comes, served as jury president. Jurors from France, Japan, Malaysia, and Vietnam contributed to a balanced and professional evaluation of the competing films.

This year also marked the first time DANAFF presented the “Asian Cinema Panorama” award and the “Critics’ Choice Award” for outstanding non-competition films.

Cultural highlights such as A Half Century of Vietnamese War Films and the Korean Cinema Spotlight further enriched the artistic atmosphere, enhancing Danang’s cultural landscape.

With its large scale and exceptional quality, DANAFF III stands out as a remarkable cinematic event that not only honors excellence in filmmaking but also affirms Danang’s rising role as a vibrant international hub for culture and creativity.
