The central city of Da Nang is scheduled to host the Ironman 70.3 Asia Pacific Championship in 2019, from May 9-12.
The information was released by the Organising Board at a press briefing in the city on April 10.
Hosted by Vietnam for the first time, the Championship event is expected to attract over 2,200 athletes. With Da Nang city having hosted Ironman 70.3 races for the past five years, it has become the largest international multi-sport event in the country.
The race will start with a 1.9km swim along the beach, followed by a gruelling 90km bike ride along the coastline, and ends with a 21km run.
According to Director of the city’s culture and sports department Huynh Van Hung, all athletes and tourists coming to Da Nang will not only have a chance to experience the international-standard triathlon but also the beauty of the pristine sandy beach and the hospitality of the city’s people.
Vietnam is the 30th country in the world, and the eighth Asia-Pacific country, to host an Ironman triathlon.
